1.Means for package delivery to the USA?
Depending on nature of each package as well as delivery distance, we will have options for suitable means of delivery. Currently, there are 4 main means of delivery: road freight, sea cargo, rail freight and air cargo.
For delivery service to the USA, based on geographical distance, air cargo is the optimized means selected by GSL with certain benefits: No obstruction due to terrain surface, thus, most of the countries in the world nations are easily connected,
- Rapid and timely service thanks to speedy flying speed.
- Risk of loss due to broken and stolen packages are minimized.
- Insurance fee is lower as the risk is less than other means.
- Detention fee tend to be minimized due to particularity of the commodities and rapid procedure handling speed.
2. Types of commodities eligible for delivery to the USA
GSL has been trying to optimize types of commodities eligible for delivery to a foreign country to meet diverse demands of customers, partners and still guarantee compliance with regulations of the country of destination. Below are types of commodities eligible for delivery to the USA, including
- Food products: including types of dried food, seasonings and Vietnamse specialties.
- Cosmetics and pharmaceutical products
- Documents: Documents, papers, contracts and written communications, etc. that are not related to politics and violation of laws
- Normal commodities: including garments, footwear, personal belongings, dried foods, etc. and other types of commodities including crafts, accessories and electronic devices.
In addition, GSL also provides several items under category of commodities not eligible for delivery to the USA, including:
- Commodities banned from export under the provisions of Vietnamese laws such as rare wood and living animals.
- Flammable and explosive items including commodities containing batteries, liquid
- Food products relating to meat (pork, beef, chicken, etc.), egg, milk
- Dietary supplement for weight loss, physiological drugs, medicines, Vietnamese herbs and traditional medicines
- Perfume
- Commodities without clear origin or legally guaranteed
- Food products relating to meat, egg, milk
3. Packing specifications for delivery
Commodities that are imported into the United States must be subject to strict regulations. This includes packaging requirements for the commodities.
- For raw food products: packaging and vacuum packaging is required, please note that the products should be labeled and specified with shelf life. Then, they will be put in carton boxes
- For documents: to be out in bags and envelops as required by DHL, EMS, ect.
- For normal commodities: to be put in carton boxes with the length not exceeding 1.2m
- Bulky and oversized commodities: wood packaging is required.
In addition:
- Normal commodities (garments, cosmetics, food): each package will not be packed heavier than 20kg and length and width will not exceed 70cm
- Bulky commodities: each package will not be packed heavier than 20kg and length and width will not exceed 70cm
- For light weighted commodities (snacks, teddy bear, etc.): DIM will be calculated based on the formula (length*width*height)/5000 = kg
4. Delivery duration to the USA?

5. Some documents required for sending commodities to the USA
In addition to preparing the commodities for shipment, it is essential that customers prepare some documents and provide information so that the shipping unit can complete the procedures, and for rapid delivery to the USA. In particular, the following should be mentioned:
- Aviation customs procedures.
- Documents, tax receipts, cargo insurance in case of commodities with high value.
- Quarantine, rabies vaccination certificate, microchips ifyou need to transport a pet.
- FDA certificate for food and pharmaceutical products.
- Some separate procedures for delivery to the USA.
6. FDA certificate for delivery to the USA
FDA stands for Food and Drug Administration.
FDA is one of the very important types of documents for delivery to the USA. Commodities such as dried shrimp, dried cakes, cakes, sweets, chips, functional foods, tea, etc. or all items relating to food and cosmetics must be issued with such certificate. This shall be considered a customs clearance for entry to the USA.
If you want your package to be cleared in a rapid manner, it is essential that you provide multiple documents to prove: origin, ingredients, certificate of quality and FDA CERTIFICATE of the USA. In case of failure to provide such documents, your package will be returned to Vietnam or canceled at US Customs.
